Sedimentology of a Late Quaternary lacustrine record from the south?eastern Carpathian Basin

The Upper Pleistocene geoarchives in the south-eastern Carpathian Basin are represented predominantly by loess–palaeosol records. In 2015, a 10 m sediment core composed of clay-rich lacustrine sediments was recovered vibracoring dry lake basin located between Vršac Mountains (Serbia) and Banat Sands Basin; location relevant for placing regional archaeological results palaeoenvironmental context. Here, we present from geoelectrical prospection lithostratigraphic interpretation this sequence supported detailed granulometric study supplemented ostracod analysis. An age model based on luminescence dating is discussed against sedimentological proxy data its implication change. cores show stratigraphy lighter ochre-coloured darker greyish sediment, related to deposition clay silt trapped an aquatic environment. Geophysical measurements ~20 thick sediments. grain-size distributions including variability fine indicative Fine particles were brought into depositional environments input settled suspension; also, direct dust constrained results. Riverine aeolian interplayed at locality.
